Before Your Procedure

Helpful Information

Please review the following information to help you have the best possible experience before, during and after your procedure.

Diet

Your doctor will give you instructions on diet and medication. Please follow your physician’s instructions carefully to prevent any delays.

Medications

If you are currently taking blood-thinning medications, including aspirin, ibuprofen,Coumadin®, Plavix®, etc., make sure you receive specific instructions from your surgeon on when to stop taking them.

If you are diabetic and have not received specific information regarding your insulin or oral medications, please call your physician at least 48 hours prior to your procedure.

If you use an inhaler, please bring it with you to the hospital.

Please inform the staff during your preoperative testing if you routinely take antibiotics prior to dental work, medical procedures, have a history of mitral valve prolapse, murmur, cardiac disease, pacemaker or defi brillator.

Please bring a list of any medications you are taking, including all over-the-counter medications, supplements and green teas. Please include dosage, and the frequency you take the medication; or you may simply choose to bring your medications.

Admission

On the day of procedure, if you are to be admitted to the hospital following your procedure, you may leave your personal belongings with a signifi cant other. If you are not staying overnight, you will need to have a family member or friend drive you home. If you live alone, you may need someone to stay with you at your home overnight. Please check with your physician in advance of your procedure. You will not be allowed to drive yourself home.

Waiting Room

On the day of your procedure, family/friends should notify receptionists/staff if they are leaving the waiting area. We recommend they leave their cell phone number in the event we need to contact them.

Illness

If you develop a cold, persistent cough, flu-like symptoms or fever prior to your procedure, please contact your physician’s office immediately.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel your procedure for any reason, please notify your physician’s offi ce immediately
